Central Management Admission Test, commonly known as the CMAT entrance exam, is yearly conducted by the Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University. Normally, the examination is held in August / September after the results of Grade XII are published.

CMAT is mandatory for those students who desire to consider the following subjects under Tribhuvan University for their Bachelor’s Degree.

  1. Bachelor in Travel and Tourism Management (BTTM)
  2. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
  3. Bachelor of Business Management (BBM)
  4. Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM)
  5. Bachelor of Information Management (BIM)
  6. Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies (BMS)
  7. Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA)



As per the Faculty of Management under Tribhuvan University, students must have secured a minimum of ‘C’ Grade in all the subjects of XI and XII, or 1.8 CGPA or second division marks in 10+2 to participate in the CMAT examination.


Admission Criteria:

CMAT Exam pattern:

The 90 minutes CMAT exam consists of altogether one hundred (100) objective questions containing twenty (25) questions in each section with a total weight of 100 marks. The students must secure at least 40% to qualify for the examinations.

CMAT Interview pattern:

The colleges running the program also conduct the individual presentations and interviews for selecting suitable candidates. Applicants securing above cut off point marks in the CMAT will be short-listed. Then the shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and selected for admission.

CMAT Merit List:

Admissions will be strictly based on the merit list. The merit list is prepared based on

  • 60% of marks secured in the CMAT Exam.
  • 10% of marks secured in the interview.
  • 30% of marks secured in plus two or equivalent level.

Curricular Structure:

The CMAT exam scores the candidates based on their knowledge/aptitude in verbal ability, quantitative ability, logical reasoning, and general awareness. The test is based on the SAT format. The colleges running the program shall conduct the individual presentations and interviews for selecting suitable candidates. The admission committee of the colleges has the final authority in selecting the students for the BBM program.
